Beauty | Tips and Remedies | Get strong & Long Nails | Nail care Tips

Most women are obsessed to have those nice looking long and strong nails that instantly enhance the overall look. Also, who would want to miss the joy of having some amazing nail art done on those neatly groomed nails? But, the fact is that many of us face the issues of having weak, brittle, chappy, and unhealthy nails which just puts a full stop to all of these.

I have been dealing with this issue right from childhood. Though I never used to bite my nails, I still had very weak ones. However over time when I started taking good care of them and followed a few simple natural remedies my nails really became much healthier and stronger.

So, here are those simple steps or remedies you can follow so as to achieve those beautiful looking long and healthy nails.

Habits That You Need To Stop To Grow Nails Faster

Before heading to the steps and remedies to get healthy and strong nails. We need to first get to know some reasons or habits that affect the growth of your nails.

1) Biting your nails -

This is a very common habit which most of us have. But if you want to grow your nails faster and healthier you need to stop this right away.

Not only is it bad for your nail growth but also can be harmful to your body and stomach.

2) Excessive use of gel or acrylic nails -

People with weak and poor nail growth usually go for gel or acrylic nails. However, excessive use of such chemicals on your nails can really harm their texture and natural growth.

Give some gap of 2-3 weeks before getting your next session done.

3) Skipping the basecoat -

Applying a base coat before applying your nail paint is as important as applying a moisturizer or primer before doing your makeup.

Basecoat provides a protective layer to your natural nails keeping them healthy and strong. Also, it makes your nail paints last pretty longer.

Note - Always use a nail polish remover to remove your nail paint. Chipping it off with fingers, teeth, or any tool is not at all recommended.

4) Using cheap quality artificial nails -

In the process of saving money, if you are planning to go for low-quality artificial nails that you get both offline or online then please discard that thought right away.

Both the glue and the artificial nails can damage your natural ones and make them more brittle and chappy.

5 ) Growing too long nails -

Though it’s an individual's personal choice to decide the length of their nails, it's much recommended to keep them in a medium to a short length so that they are less likely to break or

suffer a trauma that results in cracking or peeling.

Step To Grow Long Strong & Healthy Nails

Healthy and strong nails cannot be just acheived overnight. You need to stick to a regular routine to take care of them. Here are a few remedies and steps you can follow -

a) Lemon and Glycerin -

Lemon is rich in vitamin C that helps in the healthy growth of nails and also to get rid of any stains from them. Glycerin, on the other hand, is extremely beneficial to reinstate the moisture in your nails thus preventing breakage.

How To Use -

Mix ½ tsp lemon and ½ tsp glycerin with 1 tsp water. Mix well and apply it on your nails and cuticles. Massage for 2-3 mins and then wash off with normal water. Complete with some cuticle oil or hand cream.

You can also use lemon and glycerin separately. It’s totally up to you.

How Often ?

Use it daily for best results.

b) Coconut and Olive oil -

If you have brittle and damaged nails then a combination of olive and coconut oil can be the best remedy. Massaging the mixture of two provides the goodness of vitamin E , antioxidants and moisturization. It also aids in blood circulation and helps in nail growth.

How To Use -

Warm up some extra virgin olive and coconut oil and gently massage it onto your nails and cuticles for about 5 minutes. Cover your hands with gloves and let it rest overnight.

If you do not prefer to do it overnight then simply dip your nails in the warm mixture for 15-20 minutes and wipe off.

How Often ?

Once in a day ( preferable at night ) for best results.

c) Orange Or Citrus Juices -

Orange or any other citrus fruit juices are a great source of vitamin C and folic, which helps in collagen production. Collagen is an important agent that helps in nail growth and adds to the vitality of nails.

How To Use -

Take some orange juice in a bowl and soak your nails for around 10 minutes. Rinse it with warm water and moisturize effectively.

How Often ?

One a day would be more than enough for great results.

Note- Consuming orange or other citrus fruits regularly can also add on a lot of benefits in the process of getting strong and healthy nails.

d) Increase the Intake of Protein -

Less intake of protein rich food in your diet not only affects your overall health but also affects your nails and the speed at which they grow. Hence it’s really important to eat protein rich foods like eggs, beans , etc to help your nails grow long and strong.

Note - In addition to protein rich food , you also need to drink enough water daily to get healthy skin and nails.

e) Sunflower seeds -

If you notice vertical ridges in your nails, it could be due to lack of manganese in your body. Get rid of this issue by snacking on sunflower seeds.

These seeds are a powerhouse of nutrients and are enriched with vitamin B6, zinc, vitamin E, copper and manganese, which are a perfect cure for your weak and brittle nails.

f) Use Cuticle oil or Serum -

Hydrating your cuticles regularly can stimulate nail growth and also make it stronger and healthier. This prevents dryness , breakage and chipped nails. Cuticle oils are the best for this purpose.

You get a huge range of cuticle oils from various brands. Simply pick the ones which are rich in vitamin E and you would be good to go.

g) Take Folic Acid -

If you have been through the pregnancy phase then you must have definitely noticed healthier and strong nails. This is simply because of the high intake of folic acid tablets and also Vitamin B9 rich foods.

The key role of Folic acid is to repair the cells that actually make up your nails. It can help your nails grow more quickly as well as making them stronger and less prone to breakage and peeling.

h) Wear Gloves While Cleaning Dishes -

When your nails are exposed to water ,soap and harsh chemicals for a long time, they absorb too much water thus resulting in dry and weak nails that are more prone to cracks or breakage.

So whenever you are cleaning dishes or washing clothes with hands , make sure to wear rubber gloves to protect your hands and nails.
