So today I am on a Chinese takeout roll! First, it was a veg fried rice and now it’s a sizzling hot appetizer - The Chicken Lollipop.
We cannot deny the fact that right from kids to elders all love to have the chicken lollipop. However, we have it only when we visit any restaurant. On the other hand, some people just avoid it ( even being their most favorite dish) due to the unknown quality of ingredients and oil used to prepare it.
But don’t worry, today’s recipe will help you in easily preparing it and enjoying the same restaurant-style taste at home. Though this was my first ever try, it really came out to be super delicious. So without any further ado let’s get into the recipe.
Restaurant Style Chicken Lollipop
Prep Time: 10 minutes | Cook Time : 15 minutes | Total Time : 25 minutes
Ingredients ( 1cup = 240ml )
For Marinating The Chicken -
Chicken lollipop pieces ( 15 Nos)
1 tbsp soya sauce
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
1-2 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper powder
1 tsp red chili powder ( optional)
For Preparing The Batter -
1 cup Refined flour
½ cup of cornflour
1 tsp red chili powder/paste
1 tsp Kashmiri chili powder
2 tsp salt
1 cup of water.
A pinch of food color ( optional)
For Preparing The Seasoning Sauce -
1-2 cup cooking oil
6-7 garlic cloves finely chopped
1 tbsp tomato sauce
1 tsp red chili paste
1 tbsp Schezwan sauce
1 tbsp soya sauce
A pinch of sugar
Some finely chopped spring onion greens
How To Prepare Chicken Lollipop
Marination Of The Chicken lollipop -
Add the chicken lollipop pieces to a bowl.
To it then add some salt, pepper, soya sauce, red chili powder, ginger garlic paste, and mix well.
Leave it to marinate for 2-3 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
Once done, before preparing the batter to cook the lollipops add 1 egg and mix the pieces again.
Leave it for 15-20 minutes.
Meanwhile, take another bowl, add 1 tsp chili paste, some chili powder, cornflour, refined flour ( maida), salt, and mix the dry ingredients together.
Now add water in small portions and whisk it to avoid any lumps. Keep doing this until we get a thick and partially runny batter.
Add 2-3 drops of food coloring to the batter and mix well. This step is completely optional.
The Cooking of Chicken Lollipops -
Heat 1 ½ cup of cooking/sunflower oil in a kadhai.
Once the oil is fully heated up, take a lollipop piece and dip it fully in the prepared batter. The piece should be fully coated with the batter.
Place the piece in the kadhai and let it cook on medium flame. Follow the same procedure for other pieces.
Make sure not to add more than 3-4 pieces while cooking.
Deep fry the pieces until all the sides are well cooked, crispy, and dark brown in color.
After cooking all the chicken pieces, take a non-stick pan and heat some oil ( 1 tbsp). You can use the same oil used for cooking the chicken pieces.
Once the oil heats up, add some finely chopped garlic, saute for a minute.
Next add red chili paste, tomato sauce, Schezwan sauce, soya sauce, and mix it together.
Add ½ or ¼ cup of water and mix well for 2 -3 minutes on low to medium flame.
Once the sauce thickens, add the cooked lollipop pieces and mix it well so that the sauce gets coated on it.
Give a few tosses and mix and finally add some chopped spring onion greens.
Mix it well, switch off the flame and your chicken lollipops are ready.
Garnish it with some spring onions and serve it hot with some Schezwan sauce.
