Oiling can be the best thing you can do to your hair.Getting a good champi (oil massage for hairs) regularly from our mothers was a special pamper indeed. But those days have long lost.
The truth is oiling can be the first key to get strong and healthy hair. Here are the few benefits it gives to our hair -

Another major benefit is that due to low molecular weight it easily penetrates deep into our hair shafts .This provides intense nourishment and hydration.
I myself had excessive hair loss issues after delivery and after rebonding and colouring my hair. When no commercial products helped me , I went and tried these amazing homemade hair oils which not only reduced my hair fall but also helped me alleviate the shine, smoothness.

Fenugreek and Black seed Hair oil -
Black seeds contain powerful antioxidants , vitamins and minerals like iron, copper and zinc, which helps to protect hair cells from the aging and also encourage growth by strengthening the hair follicles. Thymoquinone (TQ), nigellone and other antihistamine components help stop hair loss due to inflammation of hair follicles.It also nourishes the hair by preventing scalp dryness.
On the other hand fenugreek seeds have high protein and nicotinic acid content, which fights against hair fall and dandruff.It provides stronger hair follicles thereby improving scalp health.
Mustard Oil contains omega-3 fatty acids which nourish and encourage healthy hair growth.It also thickens your hair from roots.
You Will Need-
2 tbsp fenugreek
2 tbsp Balck seed (Kalonji)
200 ml Coconut oil.
5 tbsp Castor oil
Method -
Take 2 tbsp of fenugreek and Black Seed each.Grind them separately to fine powder.Then mix them together and keep aside.
Take a glass container/bowl . Add 200 ml coconut oil and 5 tbsp castor oil to it.
Mix the two oils together and then add the powdered mixture of fenugreek and black seed to it.
Stir the mixture and oil so that they blend well.
Take hot water in a steel container and place the glass bowl on top of it. Let it sit for 15 mins so that the mixture gets heated up slightly.
After 15 mins, remove the glass bowl and transfer the mixture to an airtight container.
Place this container under sunlight for at least 6-7 days.This helps the oil to soak in all the goodness of fenugreek and black seed.
How to use -
Massage this oil into your scalp for about 5-10 minutes and then work it through the length of your hair. Leave it on for at least 2-3 hours.
Preheating oil is not necessary.You can directly apply it to your scalp.
Wash your hair with a mild sulfate-free shampoo and then proceed to condition.
Squeeze the excess water from your hair using a towel and let it air dry.
Oil your hair at least 3 times in a week.
Onion hair oil -
Onion contains sulfur which helps promote collagen production and as a result provides strong and thick hair. It also helps in reducing dandruff , thus preventing hair loss.
Curry leaves on the other hand plays a crucial part in preventing premature graying.They are rich in beta-carotene and proteins which strengthen and boost hair growth.
You Will Need-
2 Large Onion
¼ cup garlic
Handful or ½ cup of curry leaves
2 tbsp fenugreek
2 tbsp Black seed (Kalonji)
250 ml Coconut oil.
250 ml mustard oil
Method -
Soak 2 tbsp of fenugreek and Black Seeds in water for 2-3 hrs.Ground to a fine paste and keep them aside.
Take a blender add diced onions and ¼ cup of garlic.Blend to a smooth texture.
Then add a handful of curry leaves and the grounded paste of black seed and fenugreek to the blender.
Now grind all the ingredients together until we get a smooth paste like consistency.
Do not add water to blend the mixture.You can either add coconut or mustard oil for the purpose.
Take a thick and deep cooking steel / aluminium pan. Aa the 250 ml coconut and mustard oil to it.
Add the blended mixture to the oil and stir until everything mixes well.
Set the flame to medium. Start stirring it and let the oil heat up slowly.
After 3 -4 mins you will notice small bubbles forming above the mixture.
Keep stirring at regular intervals so that the mixture doesn’t burn.
After 45 mins you will notice that oil and its ingredients have changed its colour .Turn of the flame and let the mixture cool.
Strain the mixture using a muslin cloth to an airtight glass container.
The strained residue can we later use as a hair mask by mixing it with yogurt or hung curd.
How to use -
Massage this oil into your scalp for about 5-10 minutes and then work it through the length of your hair. Leave it on for at least 2-3 hours.
You can preheat the oil using the double boiling process before applying it to your scalp.
Wash your hair with a mild sulfate-free shampoo and then proceed to condition.
Squeeze away the excess water from your hair using a towel and let it air dry.
Oil your hair using this for at least 2 times in a week.

Herbal hair oil -
Hibiscus is rich in amino acids and vitamin C. This enhances the blood circulation under the scalp thus stimulates hair growth and strength.It also stimulates hair regrowth from dormant follicles.
Amla is a rich source of vitamin C. This produces collagen protein which is the key to healthy hair growth.It also prevents graying and provides nourishment to your hair.
Tulsi has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties which keeps your scalp from dandruff , itchiness or any other bacterial infections.
Brahmi possesses intense hair nourishing properties.The alkaloids in Brahmi helps to strengthen the hair roots producing stronger and thicker hair.
Henna is the perfect ingredient for attaining soft , shiny , manageable tresses. It reduces hair fall and dandruff. It also adds a natural colour thus reducing the chances of gray hair.
Vitamin E has good antioxidant properties thus nourishing your scalp and promoting hair growth. It can also prevent split ends when applied on the tips on a regular basis.
Tea tree oil is the best solution for an itchy and flaky scalp. It has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties.It improves blood flow , balances the PH level of your scalp and soothes itchy scalp. It is a good remedy for reducing lies in your hair.
You Will Need-
1 litre coconut oil
1 tbsp mustard seeds
3 tbsp fenugreek seeds
3 tbsp of black seeds
7-8 cloves
7-8 tbsp grated Amla
1 grated onion
Handful or ½ cup of Henna leaves (optional)
Handful or ½ cup of Hibiscus leaves.
Hibiscus Flowers - 20 no (red or white)
Handful or ½ cup of Tulsi leaves
Handful or ½ cup of curry leaves
Vitamin E Capsule - 2 no
Tea tree oil (Optional)
Method -
Soak 2 tbsp of fenugreek and Black Seed in water for 2-3 hrs.Ground to a fine paste and keep them aside.
Take a mixer and add all the herbal leaves ( henna , hibiscus ,curry leaves and tulsi ) and hibiscus flowers. Always remove the yellow portion from the center of the hibiscus flower.
Take a thick cooking steel pot or pan. Add 1 litre coconut oil.
Then add mustard seed to it. Add some cloves then finally add the grounded paste of fenugreek and black seed followed by onion and amla paste.Stir it well.
Now add the herbal mixtures to the pan and mix well.
All ingredients should blend well together.
Heat the oil on a medium flame and keep siting the mixture completely.
After 15-20 mins you will notice the herbs and the mixture loses their moisture and becomes crispy.
At this stage, turn off the flame and let it cool at room temperature.
Add 3-4 drops of tea tree and vitamin E oil to the mixture after cooling.
Transfer the oil to an airtight glass container using a muslin cloth.
How to use-
Massage this oil into your scalp for about 5-10 minutes and then work it through the length of your hair. Leave it on for at least 2-3 hours.
